The MTA board approves the NYC congestion pricing plan for vehicles that enter Manhattan below 60th Street on Wednesday.
The tolls impose a $15 fee on passenger vehicles that enter the zone from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
The vote paves the way for a 60-day public comment period that will be followed by a final vote by the MTA board initiating the program, with implementation of the toll expected in the spring of 2024.
Passenger cars entering Manhattan would be charged $15 electronically however, drivers without E-ZPass will pay $22.50.
Revenue from the tolls, projected to be roughly $1 billion annually, would be used to finance borrowing to upgrade the city’s mass transit systems. Officials have also said it would improve air quality and reduce traffic.
