For the first time ever, Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” has reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s only the third holiday song to do so. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” has reached #1 12 times, and “The Chipmunk Song” was #1 the year it was released, 1958. “Rockin'” was also released in 1958, but it’s taken 65 years to reach #1. It has been #2 the past few years, so for this anniversary there was an extra push to get it to the top spot. Brenda even filmed a music video for the song for the first time, featuring other country singers. Brenda Lee is now the oldest person to have a number one song on the Billboard 100 at 78 years young. She was only 13 when she recorded this Christmas classic!
