John Murphy a Rockville Centre Police Department detective has been charged with a hate crime.
Police say Murphy used a racial slur toward a Black man who was working last week in Manorville. Murphy is also accused of kicking the man’s SUV, ripping off a light and throwing it at him.
Murphy pleaded not guilty to the charges he is facing, including criminal mischief as a hate crime.
