An Off-duty Suffolk police officer rescues a man who punctured his legs with a fishing hook yesterday 80 miles off the coast of the Shinnecock Inlet.
Police say officer Willliam Parmenter was fishing in the Atlantic Ocean when he heard a mayday call over the radio.
The victim punctured both of his legs with a fishing hook while trying to catch a tuna.
The Officer located the boat and applied tourniquets to stop the bleeding before a Coast Guard helicopter airlifted the man to Stony Brook Hospital. He is expected to be OK.
