Democrat Kathy Hochul has become the first woman elected New York governor, winning the office outright that she took over in 2021 when former Gov. Andrew Cuomo resigned.
She defeated Republican congressman Lee Zeldin who has not yet conceded.
NY State Attorney General Letita James And Senator Chuck Schumer both won reelection.
In Congress from Long Island Republicans Nicholas La Lota, Andrew Garbarino, George Santos and Democrat Gregory Meeks have been declared winners.
Control of the U.S. House and Senate are still up in the air as of this morning with many votes still being counted in several close races across the country.
