East Farmingdale, NY- There is an urgent call to conserve water on Long Island after the U.S. Drought monitor upgraded the map on Thursday indicating a severe drought for the entire south shore of Nassau and Suffolk counties and a moderate drought for the north shore of Nassau and Suffolk.
In Suffolk County officials are asking residents and businesses to stop watering their lawns from the hours of 3am-9am, so that enough water will be available for fire crews in case of an emergency. Fire officials are asking residents to not light fire-pits or set off fire works because the conditions are ripe for a fire to spread.
