East Farmingdale, NY- From sharks to wild cats, animal sightings continue to top headlines this summer on Long Island. Suffolk County Police say they got a call Tuesday morning around 10:40am about a large wild cat believed to be possibly a bobcat, in the area of Boulevard Ave in West Islip. Officials in Suffolk County say the Third Precinct responded to the area and were unable to locate the animal.
Meantime on Facebook, Strong Island Animal Rescue League posted a photo Tuesday of a large cat spotted in the town of Islip. And now some Long Island residents are wondering if the two cats are one in the same and debating online if the cat(s) are a Lynx or a Bobcat. Either way Bobcat or Lynx, police are asking anyone who spots the animal(s) to call the Suffolk County Police non-emergency number at 631-852-COPS.
Strong Island Animal Rescue League advises anyone who spot the cat from their post to not chase it and say they can be reached at 631-403-0598.
